cistern . anechoic . sonolucent

An anechoic chamber is a "non-reflective, non-echoing room designed to completely absorb sound or electromagnetic waves." Such a room simulates "a quiet, open space of infinite dimension." "cistern . anechoic . sonolucent," for violin duo explores the sounds inside an ultra-reverberant architectural space (such as a cistern) and then moves into an anechoic chamber. Inside the chamber, all sound is immediately absorbed and, eventually, once attempts to introduce musical material into the space are abandoned, only the sounds of breathing, bodily fluids circulating, and blood pounding in the ears remain.
